{"id":368,"date":"2020-02-29T16:50:41","date_gmt":"2020-02-29T16:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdn.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=368"},"modified":"2020-02-29T16:50:42","modified_gmt":"2020-02-29T16:50:42","slug":"a-gift-for-jean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sdn.org.uk\/wordpress\/nursery\/a-gift-for-jean\/","title":{"rendered":"A gift for Jean"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The news of Jean stepping down has led to a great many parents asking if they can contribute to a gift to show their appreciation for her tireless efforts to improve the lot of children everywhere over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Needless to say we, the staff, were unprepared for this . . . although I can&#8217;t imagine why.\u00a0 We ought to have known that you would be just as sad at the prospect of losing our manager as we are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So Nanny Ruth and Katherine have volunteered to be the focus for parents wishing to make a contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But that&#8217;s the easy part!\u00a0 Buying anything for Jean is a nightmare (not my words).\u00a0 There&#8217;s no point in a bottle of Ch\u00e2teau Lafite, 1869; she doesn&#8217;t drink.\u00a0 Or a Gurkha Black Dragon cigar; she doesn&#8217;t smoke.\u00a0 Forget anything by Cartier; she doesn&#8217;t wear jewellery.\u00a0 &#8216;Things&#8217; don&#8217;t interest her.\u00a0 So her nearest and dearest have been set the task of what to buy.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll keep you posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jean isn&#8217;t aware of all this by the way and she won&#8217;t be able to see this post because computers aren&#8217;t her thing.\u00a0 Why would they be?\u00a0 They weren&#8217;t around in 1989 when she took up her post.\u00a0 But our manual records aren&#8217;t too shabby; I can tell you that Jean was appointed on 6th September and that she was contracted to 45 hours a week.\u00a0 She probably still does around this every week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jean&#8217;s first official appearance as Nursery Leader (as her title was back then) would almost certainly have been at the opening of the new nursery on Saturday 30th September 1989.\u00a0 Below is the programme of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"557\" height=\"546\" src=\"https:\/\/sdn.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Invitation.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sdn.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Invitation.jpg 557w, https:\/\/sdn.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Invitation-300x294.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, if you&#8217;d like to contribute to a gift for Jean (and I think a card is being prepared as well) please approach Ruth or Katherine as\u00a0surreptitiously as you can . . . .       taking care not to look too creepy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can&#8217;t get to the nursery then you&#8217;re welcome to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Send me a cheque made payable to Sevenoaks Day Nursery, but make it clear that it&#8217;s for Jean&#8217;s gift<\/li><li>Transfer funds to Sevenoaks Day Nursery, Handelsbanken, sort code 40-51-62, account no. 66803375 adding &#8216;Jean&#8217;s Gift&#8217; as a reference<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James . . . .
