Hugh Kirby, our Finance Trustee, is donning boots, cape and deerstalker to traverse the Country from West to East.
He’ll be walking Wainwright’s Coast to Coast (through the Lake District, over the Pennines and across the North York Moors).192 miles, starting out this weekend. He’ll be taking the nursery children with him, (but only in the form of finger puppets, as some of the hills are quite high) and reporting back with photographs to the nursery and the children’s families to let them know how we are getting on…..
This is to raise funds for our Nursery, a local charitable (not for profit) nursery providing an excellent but uniquely low cost, 51 week nursery education to local children, a number of whom would not otherwise be able to access an affordable nursery place. These places enable parents to take on employment knowing that there is all-day, year-round childcare available for their children.
Our nursery places are all filled, with an ongoing waiting list, and yet we know there are currently at least five disadvantaged families in our local area whose children have not yet been able to find an affordable place in a nursery and we know how important these pre-school years are for children’s education. A new nursery would enable us to continue this work and provide up to an additional 10 places.
For those of you who don’t know Hugh, after retiring from Accenture, he taught and worked in primary education and then with special needs children and became very aware of how quickly children can get left behind if they don’t get off to a good start during their all-important nursery years.
If you would be willing to kindly sponsor Hugh on this coast to coast walk to help us replace this much needed local nursery, please go online to his BT MyDonate page following the link: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/hughkirby1
All donations will be passed in full directly to the charity exclusively for our new nursery. Gift aid will be collected for us on your any donation if you are a UK taxpayer and agree to this.
Of course I will let you know how we all get on in June.
